PHOTOS: Salty Dog shredders tear it up in Salmon Arm

More than 700 riders participate in event

The South Canoe trails were spoken for on Sunday by the more than 700 riders competing in this year's Salty Dog Enduro.

Hosted by the Shuswap Cycling Club, the Sunday, May 11 event saw riders largely from throughout B.C. and Alberta take part in either the gruelling 6.5-hour solo or team event, or race in the 3.5-hour U15 team event. For the younger riders there was the shorter Salty Pup loop. 

Top local racers in the six-hour event included:

• Female solo: 1st place, Aida Mills, 2nd Peyton,15-29; Chloe Robidoux, 7th, and Kristen Turner, 12th, 30-39; Morgen Maatheson, 13th, 40-49; Gayle Heinrich, 5th, 50-59;

• Female team: The Goated Toads – Bethany Henrie and Brooke Inglis, 0-39; Salty Sisters – Monica Nelson, Doris Mill, 100+

• Mixed team: Stumpy and Stompy – Andre Groenewald and Annabel Louw, 8th, 0-39; Lapsidazical – David Nelson, Ella Mills, 4th, MOMford and SONs – Lizzy Van Bergeyk and Ian Van Bergeyk, 5th, 60-79;

• Male solo: Russell Kearl, 6th, 40-49; Greg Seed, 25th, 50-59;

• Male team:  Cheddargoblingoated – Peter Ely and Kynan Dicker, 0-39; Expedition Canada – Thomas Hardy and Jasper Edge, 2nd, 40-59; Human Beans – Jamie and Pete Foulger, 7th, Team Steam – Cody Collins and Jesse Zacharuk, 8th and My Best Friend's Shredding – Michael Willms and Danny Rowan, 9th, 60-79; Twin it to win it – Shawn Devantier and Ryan Newsome, 6th, The Goin' Gets Tough from the Getgo – Jan Thingsted and Ty Brown, 12th, Biker Likers – Colin Walker, August Coombs, 20th; Larch Hills masters – Dirk Breugem and George Jackson, 10th, VelociDAD maxima – Keith Hepburn, Russell Hepburn, 14th, Wooden Sticks, Steve Rodwell, Pat Sherman, 100+.

Top local riders in the U15 event included:

• Boys: The Chuckle Monkeys – Isaac Engel and Finlay Mason, 11th; Skiers on Bikes – Logan Marjoribanks Aguirre and Luca Reid, 14th, Relentless – Evan Daudrich and Hudson Riley, 19th; Dirt Bike Devils – Alex Magneson and Keattan Klassen, 22nd; 

• Girls: Girls Behind Bars – Journey Vandergrift and Nikola Louw, 2nd.
