A Vernon man suffered life-threatening injuries in a motorcycle crash on Highway 97 at the north end of Vernon on Friday.

Officers from the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP responded to the single-vehicle crash around 5:45 p.m. May 9. Media relations officer Cpl. Tania Finn said the motorcycle was travelling southbound on Highway 97 when it went off the road and down an embankment before hitting a tree.

"The motorcycle operator, a 59-year old Vernon man, sustained serious life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital by BC Ambulance Services," Finn said.

Emergency crews were seen Friday looking down the embankment on the southbound side of the highway, at a corner just after the overpass and before 48th Avenue.

The incident is still under investigation.

This was the second serious collision involving a motorcycle in the area in as many days. On Thursday, May 8, a motorcyclist was killed after running into a dump truck from behind in Enderby.
