Al Horning, a tenacious politician from Âé¶¹¾«Ñ¡ died on March 20, at 83 years old, after serving Âé¶¹¾«Ñ¡ for many decades.

Horning is remembered by colleagues as a hardworking man who loved his community and his family.

Raised in Âé¶¹¾«Ñ¡, Horning was elected to Âé¶¹¾«Ñ¡ City Council in 1980 and stayed in that position until 1988. He was then elected to the House of Commons.

In 2002, Horning returned to Âé¶¹¾«Ñ¡ City Council and three years later in 2005, he was elected the MLA for Âé¶¹¾«Ñ¡-Lake Country.

At a ceremony in council chambers on Feb. 6, Âé¶¹¾«Ñ¡ Mayor Tom Dyas announced a road connecting the airport (YLW) and Rutland will be named after Horning. The former politician was at the city council event and was presented with the ‘Horning Way’ sign.
