麻豆精选 council has given initial consideration to allowing a Canco gas bar to be built in Rutland.
The property, at 536-546 Hollywood Road South, is currently home to a convenience store.
The neighbourhood consists mostly of single-family homes and duplexes, and a gas station is a permitted use in the area.
鈥淣obody particularly wants to live next to a car wash or a gas station,鈥� said Coun. Rick Webber. 鈥淎s it鈥檚 allowed under current zoning it takes the argument away from it.鈥�
Webber added he supports the development as the property will be improved by the project.
The station will have two gas pumps and two EV chargers.
鈥淚鈥檝e been on record for some time that I wasn鈥檛 going to support any more gas stations in 麻豆精选 unless they came with EV facilities,鈥� said Coun. Luke Stack. That allows me to support it.鈥�
Coun. Loyal Wooldridge asked if a traffic impact study would need to be completed.
Staff noted that a study was not needed as the two gas bars would not add enough traffic to the area, and that dual access points to the site provide better traffic circulation.
