Transit riders in the Central Okanagan will see higher fares starting Oct. 1 as BC Transit adjusts prices across the 麻豆精选 Regional Transit System.
A single ride will increase to $3 for all passengers, including seniors, youth, and handyDART customers. The cost of a 30-day adult pass will rise from $70 to $80, while the concession monthly pass for students and seniors will climb from $45 to $55.
Post-secondary passes are also going up. The 30-day pass will cost $65, up from $60, and the semester pass is increasing to $208 from $176. HandyDART five-ticket booklets will move from $11.25 to $15.
DayPASS fares are also rising from $5 to $6. A new policy will give riders unlimited travel for the day after paying two single fares, replacing the previous 90-minute transfer system.
*Concession fares are offered at a discounted price when purchased by eligible people 18 and under or 65 and over with valid ID.
The changes come after a fare review with Central Okanagan municipalities.
鈥淭he cost of operating transit has increased, as has the demand for service with an ever-growing population,鈥 BC Transit said in a statement. 鈥淭his fare increase will support the ability of BC Transit and our local government partners to improve and expand on service in the region in the coming years.鈥
Some fare products are also being phased out. BC Transit says the 10-ride adult and concession passes will no longer be available for purchase through Umo after Oct. 1. Riders can instead use Umo Cash Balance for single rides.
Any unused tickets or passes already purchased, including paper tickets and 10-Ride Umo products, will remain valid until used or expired.
Cash and BC bus passes will continue to be accepted.
BC Transit is encouraging riders who haven鈥檛 yet switched to the Umo payment system to for information and tutorials.
