The growing neighbourhood of Shannon Lake will be getting a roundabout as part of Active Transportation Corridor (ATC) upgrades in the community.
It will be built at Shannon Lake Road, Asquith Road and Asquith Court.
Coun. Carol Zannon noted the roundabout is much needed as there are 900 homes to be built in Shannon Lake.
鈥淭his is the perfect spot for this and for future growth that we鈥檙e going to have,鈥 she said.
Preliminary work is scheduled for the fall, with the rest of the project being resumed by spring 2025, along with the ATC upgrades, and completed by fall 2025.
Most of the funding for the $1.5 million project is coming from Development Cost Charges (DCC) pegged at $1.2 million.
Council voted to take the additional $300,000 from the Growing Communities Fund rather than capital reserves as recommended in a staff report.
Staff also recommended that the roundabout not be included as part of the ATC project noting that 鈥渂oth favourable
construction timelines and pricing鈥 if it were not.
Coun. Garrett Milsap said the roundabout should go forward as soon as possible.
鈥淚f we don鈥檛 put a roundabout there we are doing a disservice to the community and the future community,鈥 he added.
