A local craft beer, made in partnership with a golf influencer, is soon to be slinging off the shelves at Silverstar Brewing Company in Vernon.
Called Sling It, the light, 3.7 per cent lager is a collaboration with Mac Boucher, an Instagram-famous golf influencer.
"We have already pushed out 120 flats in a week, which is typically four to five months of sales," said Silverstar Brewing's owner Pardeep Jaswal. "It is getting a lot of good responses, especially with the emphasis of restaurants and golf courses pushing local.
Boucher, from Uxbridge, Ont., has become one of Canada's most captivating golf figures. His signature 'sling' shots on the golf course showcase his skill and artistry. He currently has over 570,000 followers.
"Craft breweries don't really do partnerships like this," said Jaswal. "We reached out to him and we know a lot of people are aware of him locally. He is a content creator now, and he agreed to launch this lager with us, and it's been really well received."
Boucher competed on the Mackenzie Tour from 2012-14, and later parlayed his success into a social media career.
For Jaswal, the collaboration was the perfect opportunity to embrace local and shine a spotlight on the often overlooked Northern Okanagan.
"From what we find, the North Okanagan gets snubbed compared to the Central and South Okanagan, with regards to tourism," said Jaswal. "We find that getting this kind of positive response from social media and golf courses in Kamloops and 麻豆精选 is huge. A lot of the liquor stores are on board, and the hype is there. We wanted to do something a little bit different and it is shining a light on our community."
The beer officially launches in stores, and in Silverstar Brewing on Thursday, May 15.
