With a few days off thanks to a bye week, the Okanagan Sun (4-0) are back on the practice field preparing for their next opponent, the Valley Huskers (1-3) for their first meeting of the season on Saturday night in Chilliwack.
While the Sun have been savouring their euphoric come-from-behind win on Vancouver Island on Aug. 9 over Westshore, the Huskers climbed out of a tie for last place with a 25-8 victory over the winless Kamloops Broncos.
Don鈥檛 let the Huskers' record fool you; they opened the 2025 BCFC season with three straight road games against the Westshore Rebels, Vancouver Island Raiders, and Langley Rams.
The Huskers are led by quarterback Key鈥橲haun Dorsey who will be a double threat to the Sun defense. Last week against Kamloops, Dorsey spread the ball around to nine different receivers for a total of 229 yards, and when he鈥檚 not throwing the ball, he won鈥檛 hesitate to run, chipping in 94 yards rushing on 13 carries. Dorsey is second in BCFC touchdown passes with six.
Another threat out of the Husker backfield is running back Jawad Harb, who last week put up 126 yards rushing on 20 touches. Harb is second in BCFC rushing yards with 365 yards, and in rushing yards per game with 91.3.
Offensively, the Sun will continue to look to four-year veteran quarterback Liam Kroeger to lead the offense. In four games, Kroeger sports a .629 completion percentage on 61 of 97 attempts for 882 yards, two interceptions, and four touchdowns. He鈥檚 ranked second in total passed yards. The receiving corps is led by Jordayne Falconer, who has 15 catches for 246 yards, and Sam Melanson, 12 for 110 yards.
Sun running back Gerren Hardisty will be looking to add to his league-leading totals. He has 549 rushing yards with a per-game average of 137.3. He is second in rushing touchdowns, with four, to teammate and backup quarterback Marcus Christos, who has five.
Containment will be a key word for the Sun defence, and leading that charge will be defensive linemen JaQuintis Summers and Jarveon Williams. They have combined for 13 sacks. Summers leads the BCFC with eight, while Williams is ranked third with five.
The Sun secondary will have their hands full keeping tabs on Husker wide receiver Dhag Mora, who leads the team in receiving with 13 catches for 205 yards.
Saturday鈥檚 (Aug. 23) game is at Exhibition Stadium in Chilliwack, with a 7 p.m. kick-off.
It will be streamed on BCFCTV.com and broadcast on AM 1150.
A watch party will be held at Chances Casino (19+) at 1585 Springfield Road, in the Sportsbook Lounge. A family watch will be held at Train Station Pub at 1177 Ellis Street.
