After an election at the December meeting, Dale Safinuk has been appointed as the new chair of the Board of Governors for Okanagan College (OC).
Safinuk has been on OC鈥檚 board since 2019 and replaces Juliette Cunningham as the chair, who held the position since 2021.
鈥淥C鈥檚 commitment to students and this region is unparalleled,鈥 said Safinuk. 鈥淢y heart is truly aligned with the college and its mission to transform lives and communities, and it is an honour to be chosen to serve as chair. I am grateful to the board, and in particular to the leadership of chair Cunningham over the past two years.鈥
Cunningham will stay on the board until July 2024.
鈥淥ne of the best parts of our roles on the Board of Governors is being able to interact and engage with students,鈥 said Cunningham.
With Safinuk鈥檚 election as chair, Andrea Alexander was elected to succeed him in the vice-chair role. She has been a part of the Board of Governors since 2020 and is a Westbank First Nation Councillor.
鈥淭he demand for skilled, trained workers across all industries and sectors right now is high,鈥 said OC president Dr. Neil Fassina. 鈥淭his is a critical time for Okanagan College to be able to respond to labour market needs and offer access to post-secondary education programs and courses that will equip students to progress in their careers and contribute to our region鈥檚 economy and wellbeing. Our Board of Governors provides leadership to the college in delivering on our commitments to students and communities and we welcome Dale and Andrea to their new roles.鈥
