Lightning sparks new wildfire northwest of Princeton

The blaze is currently 0.1 hectares in size and located west of Highway 5A

The Myren Creek wildfire is located northwest of Princeton. It was discovered on July 5.

BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) says a new blaze has sparked northwest of Princeton.

The Myren Creek wildfire was discovered on Saturday, July 5. It is currently 0.1 hectares in size and categorized as "out of control."

BCWS says lightning is the suspected cause of the wildfire, which is located between Merritt and Princeton and west of Highway 5A.

It is currently not impacting traffic on the highway.

There are also no area restrictions near the blaze, as of 6:30 p.m., according to the provincial wildfire service.
