A woman was held overnight in police cells following a single-vehicle crash on Balmoral Road.
At 9 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 17, Salmon Arm RCMP received a report of an "intoxicated female" driving a grey sedan. Police were initially unable to locate the vehicle. At 9:40 p.m., however, a single-vehicle collision was reported, the incident involving a grey sedan upside down in a ditch on White Creek Frontage Rd.
Police found the vehicle and inside, a single occupant, a 37-year-old female who refused to get out. She was surrounded by unopened Hey Y鈥檃ll alcoholic beverages, said Salmon Arm RCMP media relations officer Const. Andrew Hodges in a news release, adding the woman denied being the driver.
"Once out of the vehicle and attended to by BC Ambulance, the woman was unsteady on her feet and was read an approved screening device demand," said Hodges.
The woman refused to provide a sample of her breath. It was explained to her that this carries the same penalty as blowing a 鈥渇ail."
"She continued to yell 'no' at the officer when told to blow into the screening device," said Hodges, resulting in the woman鈥檚 vehicle being impounded for 30 days and a 90-day driving prohibition.
"Police attempted to figure out where she lived or if there was anywhere she could be provided a ride to, but the woman continued to be uncooperative and was arrested for being intoxicated in public," said Hodges. "The woman was transported to cells and held until she was sober the next morning."
