UPDATE: Brush fire near Osoyoos homes now under control

Pair of fires sparked in the same area on the north end of Osoyoos Lake on Thursday afternoon

BC Wildfire Service says the brush fire that sparked near Radio Tower Road in Osoyoos is now under control. 

The fire is mapped at 2.4 hectares in size.


Update: 6:25 p.m

A brush fire that sparked in Osoyoos is now being held, according to BC Wildfire Service (BCWS). 

The Oliver and Osoyoos fire departments responded to a structure fire near the Cottages on Osoyoos Lake housing development Thursday afternoon before a grass fire sparked in the same area, prompting a response from BCWS.

BCWS considered both fires as one incident, mapping the blaze at 2.4 hectares in size on Radio Tower Road.

One helicopter is responding to the incident, as of 6:20 p.m.

It is unknown if there are any injuries at this time.

Provincial and local fire crews are fighting two blazes in Osoyoos on Thursday (July 17).

The Oliver Fire Department said it was assisting the community's local emergency personnel with a structure fire near the Cottages on Osoyoos Lake housing development.

BC Wildfire Service (BCWS), meanwhile, is responding to an adjacent grass fire with ground and aerial resources, as of 4:20 p.m.

Two airtankers are on scene fighting the fire, located on Radio Tower Road near the north end of Osoyoos Lake.

BCWS is considering both fires as one incident, calling the out-of-control blaze 2.4 hectares in size. It is suspected to be human-caused.

Road access is limited in the area, the Oliver Fire Department said.
