Signalling a need not to burden staff, council has temporarily docked fees for commercial operators using municipal boat launches.
Mayor Gord Milson said the plan has merit, noting the fees could be used to offset property taxes, mitigate the impact of invasive mussels, and pay for dredging.
However, he is concerned about the timing.
鈥淲hether or not there is staff capacity to handle this right now, and whether or not we should consider deferring to the fall.鈥
Milsom also pointed out that staff already has a heavy workload implementing new provincial housing legislation.
Interim CAO Ron Mattiussi agreed.
鈥淚 think getting this done right now would be difficult,鈥 said Mattiussi. 鈥淚 think we should be looking at every opportunity to deal with revenue.鈥
Coun. Garrett Millsap, who brought the idea forward, said he also did not want to add to the staff鈥檚 workload but would like to see it 鈥渋n the queue.鈥
鈥淏ecause we do have commercial users using our boat launches illegally, which is in our bylaws鈥.
Staff is preparing a report on potential commercial fees that will be brought to council at a later date.
