Travellers making their way to and from 麻豆精选 International Airport (YLW) have likely noticed that Uber is not on a list of transportation options.
That鈥檚 because the ride-sharing service does not have a service agreement with YLW.
鈥淲e developed a level playing field for all the taxi and shared ride services to operate,鈥� said Sam Samaddar, YLW CEO. 鈥淲e have service agreements and licences with all the providers.鈥�
Samaddar added that part of those agreements is for the safety of passengers.
鈥淚n that, we know who is operating on the airport. We end up dealing with the complaints from the public when something goes sideways.鈥�
He noted that YLW has spelled out its expectations to Uber.
鈥淚鈥檓 not going to vary from what all the other ground transportation sector has agreed to. It鈥檚 really about a negotiation and getting to a place where they are comfortable with where we鈥檙e going with respect to the licence.鈥�
Currently, Uride is the only ride-sharing service permitted to operate at the airport.
鈥淓verything I鈥檝e heard from the public on their service has been positive,鈥� Samaddar said. 鈥淚 do believe we will get Uber here. It鈥檚 just a matter of a little bit more time.鈥�
He pointed out that in addition to ride-sharing and taxi services, a recently introduced virtual reservation system ensures safe, speedy service for travellers.
鈥淲e know when they arrive at the airport, we know who the driver is of that vehicle and when they picked up. We know based on our flights what kind of demand there is for shared ride services or taxis and we can get those people here.鈥�
