At council's April 28 meeting, 麻豆精选 Mayor Tom Dyas bows his head during a moment of silence to remember the 11 victims of the Lapu Lapu Day tragedy in Vancouver on April 26, 2025.

At Monday鈥檚 (Apr. 28) meeting, 麻豆精选 city council paused to honour the victims of the tragic attack at the Lapu Lapu Day festival in Vancouver.

Mayor Tom Dyas offered condolences on behalf of the city.

鈥淥ur thoughts are with the Filipino community in Vancouver, here in 麻豆精选, and across Canada,鈥 he said. 鈥淎s they grieve and come together in the face of this heartbreaking loss, 麻豆精选 stands with you, and with the City of Vancouver, in solidarity and support.鈥

Dyas said moments like this serve as powerful reminders of the importance of community.

鈥淚t is also a reminder of how vital it is to ensure that mental health supports are available to those who need them.鈥

A moment of silence was held by council members, staff, and members of the public in the chamber to honour the victims and those affected.

The attack happened on April 26 at the Filipino cultural event in Vancouver, when an SUV drove into the crowd. Eleven people were killed. At least 24 others were injured. Seven remain in critical condition and three are in serious condition.

To honour the victims, the Okanagan Filipino Canadian Society will hold a vigil at Ben Lee Park on Tuesday (Apr. 29) at 6:30 p.m.

The suspect, Kai-Ji Adam Lo, has been charged with eight counts of second-degree murder. Vancouver police say more charges are expected.

Also on Tuesday, Premier David Eby announced that a public inquiry will likely take place, but not until the criminal court proceedings are complete.
