Soprano Christina Bell is performing at Trinity United Church in Vernon Sunday, May 4, 2025.

Having recently captivated audiences in Edmonton with her powerful voice and dynamic stage presence, Vernon soprano Christina Bell is coming home.

Bell (originally Schmolke) has announced an opera, musical theatre and jazz performance at Vernon's Trinity United Church Sunday, May 4, at 2 p.m., with accompanist Neta Petkau.

The renowned soprano recently reconnected with the genre of opera and is looking forward to showcasing her talents in her hometown.

Bell grew up in Vernon and studied with vocal instructor Elizabeth Scott. She played the lead role in several musicals at Vernon Secondary School, including Sandy in Grease.

"Vernon was a special place to grow up in because we had great training and many opportunities," she said.

She performed jazz after moving to Edmonton to pursue a career as a psychologist, and released original pop/R&B songs in a 2006 album that received regular radio play. After honing her craft in various musical styles, Bell recently decided to get back to her classical music roots, and return to Vernon to perform.

"It's a dream come true to perform again in my hometown," Bell said. "I have always had such gratitude for the musical influences that have shaped me in Vernon, and this concert is a way to express my appreciation."

The concert will feature a selection of operatic arias infused with hints of jazz that reflect Bell's unique musical journey.

Tickets are $20 at the door or on ticketseller.ca. Youth 18 and under can attend for free.
