As a blaze continues to burn north of Golden after the long weekend, BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) says it's closely monitoring the situation with crews and equipment despite the challenging terrain.
The Redburn Creek fire, about 20 kilometres from Golden and 10 kilometres east of the Trans-Canada Highway and Burges James Gadsden Provincial Park, has grown to 13.4 hectares since its discovery Saturday, Aug. 30. That's slightly more than half the size of Revelstoke's Illecillewaet Greenbelt.
Remaining out of control Sunday afternoon, Aug. 31, this lightning-sparked fire in the upper Southeast Fire Centre has been photographed on a steep montane slope that BCWS crews haven't been able to fully access.
"The fire is located within inoperable, steep, and inaccessible terrain where it is not safe for ground crews to work," BCWS wrote on Sunday, Aug. 31. "The fire has been assessed, and predetermined containment lines have been identified where crews and equipment can safely work."
Though BCWS hasn't updated this wildfire file since Sunday afternoon, no area closures or evacuation notices have been issued, and no threats to public safety or infrastructure have been communicated.
"The fire is being closely monitored by ground and air resources daily for unwanted movement towards values," BCWS added. "Ground actions with crews and heavy equipment will be initiated if the fire progresses closer to the pre-identified containment lines and trigger point."
