Council has given initial consideration for a seven-storey residential-commercial building to be built on an empty lot at Hoskins and Dobbin Roads.
A rationale letter to the city from applicant Lime Architecture states the development will provide 65 purpose-built rental apartments for low to mid-income earners.
The project consists of 20 studio units, 10 1-bedroom units, 25 one-bedroom + den units, and 10 two-bedroom units, with balcony spaces with 10 to 12 feet of foldable doors to extend the connection between indoor and outdoor space.
Coun. Garrett Millsap said the development is a good opportunity to get people living in the downtown area.
鈥淏eing able to walk to Johnson-Bentley, being able to walk to our new city hall and receive services, being able to go to SaveOn Foods and shop.鈥
Council voted unanimously to give three readings to rezoning bylaw amendments to move the development forward.
If eventually built, it would be the tallest building in Westbank Centre.
