It's party time at Ten 13 Caribbean Inspired Cuisine in downtown 麻豆精选.
The restaurant is celebrating one year in business today, May 18, and is inviting everyone in for a piece of cake.
Co-owner Felisha Xavier said the first day of official business was a wild one.
"We did two soft launches last April, just because we were waiting on permits to go through all the red tape that comes along with owning a business in the Okanagan," Xavier said. "The day we got it approved, because we were wanting to open for the long weekend, we opened that afternoon... Literally the inspector came in that morning and we were like 'We can open today.'"
Xavier opened the restaurant in partnership with her brother Tyler Shannon with a desire to present food reflective of their Jamaican culture.
"We work together way better than I thought we would," Xavier said about going into business with her brother. "We're family so it could have gone one of two ways, but it's been phenomenal."
The whole business is a family affair with Xavier's husband working in the kitchen and her daughters helping out on staff.
Ten 13 is celebrating at the restaurant from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. and everyone is welcome to join.
Xavier said people should keep an eye on the business' Instagram as they have lots of events planned for year two.
