The Literacy Society of North Okanagan is lacing up their court shoes and grabbing their paddles for their first ever Raise a Paddle - Raise a Reader pickleball fun-raiser.
The event will be hosted at the Predator Ridge Raquet Club on Saturday, June 21.
Unsure of what dinking is? Think the kitchen solely means where food is made? Don't worry, this non-sanctioned, unranked tournament is meant for fun.
Teams of four (men, women, or mixed) will compete in rally-style play and partial teams or individuals who register will be placed with others to complete a team.
鈥淲e are all about teams having a fun time while supporting a great cause,鈥 said Debbie Nurse, event organizer and society executive director. 鈥淭his is a nice entry into the sport, but more importantly, it supports literacy programming in our community.鈥
The event will kick off with a pickle party on Friday, June 20 from 5-8 p.m., where players will participate in a clinic and enjoy eats from the Big Fat Greek food truck and a glass of wine from Peak Cellars.
There will be an opportunity to earn extra pickle points by participating in the evening's activities, where attendees will pick up their swag bag of goodies. Vendors such as the Pickleball Depot and Kin Tec Footwear will be on site, along with numerous silent auction items.
Team members are encouraged to register by Saturday, May 31, to be entered into a pickle prize package worth $300.
To register, visit literacysociety.ca. Play begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 21, and lunch is included.
