J.L. Jackson student Vienne Bredick won two silver medals and a bronze at the  B.C. High School Track and Field Championship held in Langley, June 5-7, 2025.

Vienne Bredick's eyes are on a spot with Team BC after winning three medals at the B.C. High School Track and Field Championship.

Vienne was one of five Salmon Arm students who took part in the June 5-7 event in Langley, B.C. The local contingent consisted of Salmon Arm Secondary's Ellie Giesbrecht who, in her final high-school provincials showing, came in 20th in senior women’s 400-metre hurdles. Also on the team were Jackson students Joel Giesbrecht, who took 8th place in junior men’s discus; Brodie MacLean, who took 20th in junior men's javelin; and Aurealia Beaumont, who came in 12th in junior women's discus, 18th in the shot put and 29th in javelin.

Vienne earned three visits to the podium at event, winning silver in junior women’s triple jump and high jump, and a bronze in long jump. The high jump medal was earned with a result of 1.6 metres (5.24 feet), behind Jaylah Dennis' (Centennial Secondary School/Coquitlam) first-place result of 1.75 metres (5.7 feet). Vienne's result in triple jump, 11.68 metres (38.3 feet), had set a record for the category until it was quashed by Mount Douglas Secondary's (Saanich) Linda Zhou with 12.13 metres (39.79 feet). In the long jump, Vienne tied for third place with 5.32 metres (17.45 feet).

Vienne's triple and long-jump results were also personal bests.

"That’s a pretty good weekend – it was more than a pretty good weekend, that’s a spectacular weekend," said Vernon Triple A Track and Field coach Ian Cameron, who Vienne trains with three times a week.

Luvena Bredick said her daughter didn't anticipate topping Jayla in high jump, and in long jump, Vienne's goal was to be among the top 8.

"She surprised herself there; that was kind of nice…," said Luvena. "She didn’t get a personal best in high jump but she was happy to get the silver – it was a long three days."

Cameron had informed Luvena that it is rare for someone to medal in all three of their events at provincials.

Next month Vienne will be trying out for Team BC and, if successful, will advance to nationals in Calgary.
