A major sponsor behind mountain skiing events across the province has struck a fresh five-year partnership with the BC Alpine Ski Association, with the hope of continued development for thousands of athletes.

Vancouver-based Teck Resources Limited, which first partnered with BC Alpine in 2008, has since supported the association's 32 ski clubs and more than 6,700 members, perhaps best known as the title sponsor of the provincial U14 and U16 race series for ages 11 to 16.

BC Alpine represents clubs across the Kootenays, Okanagan and beyond, including Revelstoke, Vernon, 麻豆精选, Summerland, Princeton, Penticton, Grand Forks, Rossland, Nelson, Kimberley, Nakusp and Golden.

Now, natural resources company Teck will continue to support more than 50 race events hosted by B.C. ski clubs every December to April, according to BC Alpine, which reports many Teck employees either volunteer at or have children skiing at BC Alpine clubs.

鈥淟iving in British Columbia offers an incredible opportunity to enjoy nature through activities like skiing and we are proud to support BC Alpine Ski Associations鈥 initiatives that engage youth across the province,鈥 Carleigh Whitman, Teck's head of social performance and Indigenous relations, said in a release.

BC Alpine CEO Anders Hestdalen added in the release that BC Alpine managing to sustain its programming through ups and downs over decades has been instrumental to its continued success, and "largely thanks to our Teck partnership."

"We have very strong grassroots programming and medalists thanks to our Teck partnership that now will continue for another five years," Hestdalen said.

Teck and BC Alpine's latest agreement takes effect this fall ahead of the next ski season, continuing until the end of the 2030-31 season.
