UPDATE 12/8 9:30 a.m.

Lake Country Fire Chief Brent Penner confirmed to Capital News that the investigation is ongoing Friday morning.

The north units remained unoccupied because of the damage from the fire, which started in the kitchen but still undetermined how it started.

鈥淭here鈥檚 nothing for us to not think it was accidental,鈥 stated Penner.

However, Penner stated that in the unit that sustained the fire, the occupants were in the process of moving in and painting the unit. Because of this, the smoke alarm was detached and not active.

鈥淪moke alarms do save lives,鈥 added Penner.

He also confirmed the two units to the south remained unharmed by the fire and the families are able to go back home.

The investigation is expected to conclude on Friday.
