Nearby smoke sparked the attention of the Lower Similkameen Indian Band (LSIB) on Monday afternoon.
Just after 4 p.m. on May 26, LSIB council, management and staff issued a statement on its Facebook page saying it was aware of a smouldering tree and grass just west of their admin offices at 1420 Hwy 3, Cawston. LSIB reached out to the land-owner to offer assistance with extinguishing the tree and debris.
"At this time, the area around the tree is very green, but LSIB is cognizant of the weather that has been in our valley today and will be monitoring," LSIB stated.
LSIB will continue to monitor the situation and keep the community updated.
