Due to a windstorm the evening prior, more than 4,700 BC Hydro customers were still without power Thursday morning, July 17, 2025.

Homes and businesses throughout the Shuswap were still without power Thursday morning as BC Hydro continued to address outages throughout much of the Interior.

Strong winds, and trees that fell as a result, were blamed for the thousands of BC Hydro customers who found themselves without power Wednesday evening, July 16. That night, the utility provider said it had all available crews in the Thompson / Shuswap and Central Interior regions working to restore power as efficiently and safely as possible, with additional crews brought in from other areas.

As of  8:20 a.m. on Thursday morning, July 17, BC Hydro was still responding to 63 outages affecting 4,729 customers in the Thompson/Shuswap, and offered no estimates as to when power could be restored.
