Having transitioned services over the weekend, the Sek'emaws (Sicamous) Health Centre is open and taking patients at the 200 Main Street location.
On Tuesday, July 22, the District of Sicamous announced that the centre had officially received occupancy and was open for business, with different services settling into the new building that broke ground last March.
A media release said in the coming months, residents will be able to access a variety of health and wellness services there including – via the Main Street entrance – Functional Physio & Wellness, Eagle River Massage Studio, Shuswap Acupuncture & Health, and the Eagle Valley Community Support Society.
Through the Primary Care entrance there will be the Sicamous Community Health Centre medical clinic, Shuswap Hearing Clinic and Hallo Perinatal Services & Lactation Consulting.
The building also has a 3,200 square-foot community space available to rent – The Lakes – that can be divided into separate rooms named Shuswap and Mara. Inquiries about renting it can be done through the district rec department at recreation@sicamous.ca.
To help facilitate truth and reconciliation, an integral part of the centre is a space dedicated to traditional Indigenous healing and knowledge.
"The District of Sicamous and Splatsin té Secwépemc continue to work towards a meaningful use of this space to best suit the needs of our communities," the release said. "Now that the centre is complete and accessible, work is underway to fully utilize this space."
Finishing touches still to come include artwork finalization and installation, landscaping that includes public input, signage and final contractor deficiency work.
"We ask that residents refrain from exploring the space until finishing touches are complete," the district said in the release. "We look forward to welcoming you to the new health centre and are planning a grand opening celebration in the fall."
