The Columbia Shuswap Invasive Species Society (CSISS) is mussel-ing into Sicamous with an educational event.
The public is invited to the free event for an "opportunity to connect with nature, and to help stop the spread of invasive species!"
A social media post said CSISS will be at Old Town Bay Marina on Friday, July 25 for a shoreline outreach at the boat launch, and will feature zebra and quagga mussel sampling, and a clean-drain-dry demonstration for watercraft. There will also be an informational booth, and prizes available.
CSISS advises participants to bring sun protection, and wear appropriate footwear and clothing, with pants and long sleeves "highly recommended as there will be lots of mosquitoes."
Further information is available by emailing CSISS at info@columbiashuswapinvasives.org.
For the last several years, the District of Sicamous has made resolutions at the Union of B.C. Municipalities convention asking for provincial support in stopping the spread as the mussels are a serious threat to water quality, ecosystems, infrastructure and tourism.
