BX Dog Park reopens with cool new features in North Okanagan

Ranch parking lot upgrades completed, minus pavement to keep pups paws cool, dog water fountain

Paws up! BX Ranch Dog Park is reopening just in time for the weekend.

The park opens to dogs at 5 p.m. today (Friday, July 11), and with some dog-friendly change of plans.

The park has been closed since June 16 for upgrades, which originally called for asphalt surfacing.

The Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) has opted to keep the gravel surface, based on the project engineer's recommendation.

"This approach will improve stormwater infiltration, reduce surface runoff, and help keep the parking lot surface cooler during the summer months for the dogs," the RDNO said.

Other improvements completed, include a structural gravel sub-base for long-term durability, new catch basins to address pooling water and a new water fountain with a dog bowl and bottle filler, now ready for use.

"Thank you to the community for your patience during this temporary closure. We look forward to welcoming you and your pups back to the park later today!"
