16 temperature records broken across B.C., including 1 nearly 100 years old

Two 87-year-old records were also broken on Labour Day, Sept. 1

Sixteen daily temperature records were broken across B.C. on the holiday Monday (Sept. 1), including a 97-year-old record. 

The hottest spot in B.C. was Lillooet at 38.8 C, breaking the 2022 record of 35.5 C. Records have been kept in the area since 1917.

It was followed by Cache Creek at 38.3 C, breaking the previous record of 36.4 C set in 2022. Records have been kept in the area since 1944.

Lytton was the third-hottest spot at 38.2 C, breaking the old record of 36.6 C set in 2022. Records have been kept in the area since 1921.

That was followed by Kamloops with a daily high of 36.4 C, breaking the 2022 record of 35.1 C. Records have been kept in the area since 1890.

Merritt hit 35.9 C on Monday, breaking the previous record of 35.2 set in 2024. Records have been kept in the area since 1918.

Clearwater broke the 97-year-old record on Monday. The area was 35.6 C, breaking the old record of 33.3 C set in 1928. Records have been kept in the area since 1913.

Princeton was also 35.6 C, breaking the 1998 record of 35 C. Records have been kept in the area since 1893.

Vernon was 34.7 C on Monday, breaking the old record of 34 C set in 2009. Records have been kept in the area since 1930.

Quesnel hit 33.6 C, breaking an 87-year-old record of 33.3 set in 1938. Records have been kept in the area since 1893. 

Sparwood broke a 2022 record of 31.4 C, with 33.2 C on Monday. Records have been kept in the area since 1969.

Clinton was 32.2 C, breaking the old record of 30.8 C set in 2024. Records have been kept in the area since 1974.

Tatlayoko Lake was right behind at 32.1 C, breaking a 2024 record of 31 C. Records have been kept in the area since 1930.

Puntzi Mountain was 31.9 C, breaking the 2024 record of 31 C. Records have been kept in the area since 1959.

Williams Lake was also 31.9 C, breaking the old record of 29.4 C also set in 2024. Records have been kept in the area since 1960.

Burns Lake hit 30.3 C, breaking the previous record of 27.5 C set in 2024. Records have been kept in the area since 1949.

Prince George also broke an 87-year-old record on Monday. The area hit 29.2 C, breaking the 1938 record of 28.9 C. Records have been kept in the area since 1912.
