A vigil for the Transgender Day of Remembrance will be held in downtown 麻豆精选 on Nov. 20.
The day of remembrance is held in recognition of all transgender lives lost to anti-queer violence. The day was created after the the 1998 murder of Rita Hester, a member and advocate for the transgender community in Boston where she worked on education regarding transgender issues. To this day, no one has been charged in her death.
All are invited to the candlelight vigil at 7p.m. at Stuart Park.
鈥淥n Trans Day of Remembrance, we solemnly honour the memory of the hundreds of transgender lives lost in the past year to anti-trans bigotry and violence,鈥 said Advocacy Canada, a queer advocacy group based in 麻豆精选.
鈥淎s we remember those lost, let鈥檚 vow to combat the bigotry that contributes to this violence. This world should be a place where every soul, full of life and love, can thrive without fear.鈥
