A 35-storey mixed-use tower will be going up across the street from the under-construction UBC Okanagan tower in downtown 麻豆精选.
While council did not approve a development permit for the building during a public hearing Oct. 17, it did defer a decision until revisions to the project can be made.
Council did approve requested variances to allow the development to come back to a regular meeting for consideration of the permit rather than forward it to another public hearing.
The building will be constructed at 1405 St. Paul Street, just across the road from the 43-storey UBCO project at 550 Doyle Avenue.

The Kerkhoff Construction project will contain 342 units (112 micro suites/bachelor, 112 one-bedroom, 118 two-bedroom) and potentially a grocery store on the ground floor.
Some residents from the nearby One Water Street, also a Kerkoff project, asked council not to approve the development until bike storage concerns at their building were sorted out.
They claimed that promised separate storage was never delivered, and instead were told bikes could be locked in regular storage units.
鈥淲hy do we have any bicycle parking bylaws whatsoever if we鈥檙e not going to request that these developers follow the bylaw regulations,鈥 asked one resident.
However, applicant Leonard Kerkhoff told council the strata council was offered to bring the issue to the public hearing but declined because the situation is more complex than some residents explained.
鈥淲e feel we鈥檝e never stated there would be bike parking鈥trata plans did not include any indication there would be dedicated bike storage.鈥
The city will be reaching out to residents at One Water about their concerns.
鈥淚 will give some comfort to those that spoke to that issue that staff will follow up independently and have a chat about those issues,鈥 said Doug Gilchrist, city manager.
Editor鈥檚 note: This story has been corrected to clarify that council did not approve a development permit for the project, but instead approved variances requested by the project applicant.
