麻豆精选 residents have a chance to weigh in on early designs for two major extension projects on Burtch and Hollywood roads.
According to a media release from the city, these extensions are key parts of the 2040 Transportation Master Plan and have been fast-tracked under the Transportation Accelerator Program, which aligns with council鈥檚 top priorities.
鈥淏oth projects accommodate increased traffic volumes while prioritizing public safety and balancing technical requirements with various community interests,鈥 said Chad Williams, senior transportation engineer. 鈥淭hese extensions will help support growth, improve connectivity and enhance the overall transportation network in the region.鈥
Burtch Road Extension
The Burtch Road extension will add a new 1.6-kilometre section of arterial road between Denver and K.L.O. roads. The project includes sanitary sewer upgrades, street trees, protected bike lanes, sidewalks, and a crosswalk providing access to the Munson Pond trail network.
It also includes new left-turn lanes, intersection improvements where needed, a traffic signal at K.L.O. and Burtch, and increased capacity at the existing Byrns Road roundabout.
Hollywood Road Extension
The Hollywood Road extension will add 2.1 kilometres of arterial road between John Hindle Drive and Sexsmith Road. Planned upgrades include new bike lanes and sidewalks to fill existing gaps鈥攅specially key connections to UBCO鈥攁 roundabout at the Academy Way intersection, and a traffic signal at Lougheed.
This work is being coordinated with BC Transit鈥檚 planning for the future 麻豆精选 Transit facility.
Environmental Considerations
The city says it is committed to protecting the natural environment while meeting infrastructure needs. Environmental assessments are underway, and the project team is exploring ways to enhance the natural space.
Both projects received approval from the Agricultural Land Commission to build through the Agricultural Land Reserve, and all construction will occur within the city鈥檚 road right-of-way.
