The Wilson鈥檚 Landing Fire Department is kicking off a recruitment campaign and is seeking new recruits to join their team as paid-on-call firefighters.
Following the devastating McDougall Creek Wildfire, the department needs help now more than ever.
Established in 1984, the Wilson鈥檚 Landing Fire Department serves the community along Westside Road from Trader鈥檚 Cove to Shelter Cove.
Prospective members must reside within an eight-kilometre radius of Station 42 be between the age of 19 and 65 and be in good physical condition.
A recruitment information session will be held on Thursday, Dec. 7, at 6:30 p.m. at Station 42 at 2396 Westside Road.
鈥淲e are searching for individuals who want to represent their community and make a positive difference in the lives of others,鈥 said Paul Zydowicz, Wilson鈥檚 Landing fire chief. 鈥淥ur team values continuous learning and practice and will provide opportunities for recruits to learn and grow while forming lifelong relationships that extend beyond the call of duty.鈥
If you are interested, complete the paid-on-call firefighter application form and bring it in-person to the information session.
Prospective recruits will be contacted regarding the next steps for joining the department.
Interviews and physical tests for candidates will be conducted and successful applicants will receive training beginning in January. Training is provided weekly on Tuesday from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
If you have any inquiries about joining, email paul.zydowicz@rdco.com.
