City council is getting a look at plans to step up public safety in 麻豆精选鈥檚 North Glenmore area.
It is considering a proposal to rezone and re-designate land along John Hindle Drive to make way for a new Glenmore Protective Services Campus. The project is already included in the city鈥檚 2025 Capital Plan.
The estimated $39 million project would see the construction of a new firehall and training centre, replacing the Glenmore Fire Station Valley Road North. The new facility is expected to better serve the growing Glenmore community and surrounding areas, according to a staff report going to council on May 26.
The proposed site spans several properties near the Glenmore Landfill and includes land currently zoned for agriculture and parks. Council is being asked to change the land use designation so the project can move forward.
The new campus could eventually house other municipal services, including community policing and utility-related facilities.
The report states that the land was originally purchased by the city in 2018 as a buffer for the landfill and to preserve natural areas as the city grows. The location was identified by council as the best option for a new firehall in 2023.
Construction is expected to begin in the fall, with completion targeted for 2027.
The proposed changes will go to a public hearing, giving residents a chance to weigh in.
