A 麻豆精选 couple, celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary, has won the Lake Life Lottery grand prize.
John and Sherry Gulley found out on Jan. 11 that they held the winning ticket for the $1.37 million prize package, which includes a fully-furnished dream home in Quail鈥檚 Landing.
鈥淚 was in absolute disbelief,鈥� said John. 鈥淭ammie from the YMCA had to spend a good five minutes convincing me because I was so incredulous. I just couldn鈥檛 believe it.
The Gulleys, who celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 2023, have called 麻豆精选 home for the past decade.
鈥淲e began our journey fifty years ago with almost nothing,鈥� Sherry said. 鈥淭hrough years of hard work and countless relocations for the sake of our family鈥檚 opportunities, this unexpected blessing is a beautiful addition to our shared adventure.鈥�
The Gulleys have close ties to community health. John鈥檚 father was a physician and his mother was a nurse, and Sherry has several cousins who work at 麻豆精选 General Hospital (KGH).
鈥淲e鈥檝e supported other home lotteries, but this one is special because it is local, and the two causes are so important for our community,鈥� John explained.
All funds raised from the Lake Life Lottery remain in the interior of BC, supporting physical, social and mental health initiatives through the KGH Foundation and the YMCA of Southern Interior BC.
Kamloops resident Hayley Green also celebrated a significant win, taking home more than $235,000 as the Lake Life Lottery 50/50 draw prize winner.
鈥淓ven after looking at the email and matching the tickets, it was still hard to believe,鈥� she says.
The winning continues with the February 鈥楽plash of Cash鈥� month, offering $91,000 in cash prizes, including a $29,000 Leap Year draw.
