After becoming a standalone detachment, Lake Country now has its own RCMP commander.
Staff Sergeant Jon Collins was welcomed to the community on Aug. 21.
鈥淛on brings more than 20 years of operational and administrative policing as well as leadership experience to the role,鈥 a district media release states.
Collins began his RCMP career in Williams Lake and then moved to 麻豆精选, working for the Southeast District as part of a general investigation team and later, part of the major crime unit.
Following that assignment, he moved to Prince George and worked at the North District MCU office.
鈥淚 am very pleased to be taking on this leadership role in Lake Country,鈥 Collins said. 鈥淥ver the years I have built many relationships with the district and community. As Lake Country grows, we will continue to meet rising demands from the public with strong leadership, modern and proactive policing initiatives, and meaningful engagement with our partners and residents.鈥
He held the role of non-commissioned officer in charge in Lake Country from 2020 until he was promoted to Staff Sgt. as watch commander at the 麻豆精选 detachment in 2024.
Collins also worked in the Professional Responsibility Unit at the 麻豆精选 Regional Detachment for almost three years. His experience includes a two-year posting to Alexis Creek with four First Nations communities near Williams Lake.
Collins鈥 appointment follows a restructuring of the RCMP's policing model in the Central Okanagan. Previously, the detachment was part of a centralized model overseen by the 麻豆精选 RCMP.
鈥淲e鈥檙e excited to welcome S/Sgt. Jon Collins as the new Detachment Commander for the Lake Country RCMP,鈥 said Mayor Blair Ireland. 鈥淭his is a major step forward for policing in our community鈥攐ne that brings greater accountability and a sharper focus on the issues that matter most to Lake Country.鈥
Collins assumed the position as detachment commander on Aug.18.
