Cpl. Michael Gauthier is set to take on the role of keeping the Rutland community safe.
The 麻豆精选 RCMP's Community Safety Unit (CSU) is responsible for complex issues mostly in the city's downtown core as well as Rutland. Starting May 5, Gauthier will be the dedicated supervisor for the Rutland community.
Currently part of the Media Relations Unit, Gauthier will now be working out of the RCMP's Rutland office with his new duties including increasing visibility, community engagement, the implementation of crime prevention strategies and working closely with the City of 麻豆精选鈥檚 Community Safety Services Branch and Uptown Rutland Business Association (URBA).
鈥淚t was important that we select someone who is not only familiar with the expectations and day-to-day operations of the Community Safety Unit, but also someone who is already trusted and well known among our partnering agencies, and who can work collaboratively to address sensitive and complex community issues,鈥 says Insp. Chris Goebel, acting officer in charge of the 麻豆精选 RCMP Detachment. 鈥淢ike will be a valuable resource for this unit and new initiative, and we are looking forward to the positive impact and valued contributions he will make in the community.鈥
Gauthier enters the role with 16 years of police experience. After previously spending four years with the CSU, he became the 麻豆精选 RCMP's media relations officer in 2023.
鈥淐ommunity safety is council鈥檚 top priority, and we are pleased by the RCMP鈥檚 continued investment into the community, which builds on the resources we鈥檝e invested in Rutland, including the URBA on-call team, to help ensure our city is safe and feels safe for residents, business owners, and visitors,鈥 said 麻豆精选 Mayor Tom Dyas. 鈥淚鈥檓 pleased to welcome Cpl. Gauthier to this new leadership role鈥攈is experience and strong connection to 麻豆精选 will be a valuable addition to our proactive efforts to reduce crime in the community.鈥
It's unknown yet at this time if the 麻豆精选 RCMP will fill the media relations officer role.
