Debate over parking plan for development on 麻豆精选鈥檚 Dilworth Mountain

鈥榃e鈥檙e setting up a potential neighbourhood dispute鈥

City council has urged a developer building an apartment building on Dilworth Mountain to take neighbourhood concerns over parking seriously.

The second phase of development at 777 Denali Drive will construct a 79-unit, three-storey apartment on top of an existing two-storey townhouse development containing 10 units.

However, residents living in townhouses across from the project, built during the first phase of the development, have concerns about parking on the private road that separates them.

Coun. Mohini Singh visited the site and noted the road is narrow and difficult for vehicles to turn around on because of visitor parking spots.

鈥淪o that would mean they would almost have to drive into the townhouse driveway to turn around.鈥

Coun. Ron Cannan also visited the area and referenced the city鈥檚 good neighbour bylaw.

鈥淚 think this parking design arguably encourages a constant violation of that bylaw. We鈥檙e setting up a potential neighbourhood dispute.鈥

Cannan put forward a motion to defer issuing a development permit for the project so the applicant could work with staff the community to refine the parking plan.

It was defeated in a tie vote.

Mayor Tom Dyas asked staff to note the parking concerns on the file.

鈥淪o that there is consideration to bring forward the concerns that Coun. Singh had, that Coun. Cannan had on basically the in and outs on the property.鈥

Council voted 7-1 to approve the development permit with Cannan opposed.

Coun. Maxine DeHart was not in attendance at the Nov. 6 meeting.
