Candles lit to honour the 228 of fallen soldiers from the 麻豆精选 area at the Field of Crosses display

People came together to pause and light a glowing symbol of remembrance in Downtown 麻豆精选 to honour those who have sacrificed their lives while fighting for Canada.

The ceremony, organized by the Rotary Club of 麻豆精选, was held at the Field of Crosses in 麻豆精选鈥檚 City Park on the evening of Nov. 10.

For the past week, 228 white crosses bearing the names and ages of fallen soldiers from the 麻豆精选 area have been displayed in the park. The visual memorial bears resemblance to the crosses in cemeteries in Europe, where many Canadian soldiers have been laid to rest.

By the end of the week, some of the crosses were adorned with handmade cards, flowers and photos left by their surviving relatives and loved ones.

People were able to visit the visual memorial throughout the week to pay their respects and remember the brave people who sacrificed their life for Canada.

All in attendance at the Candlelight ceremony were invited to take a lit candle and place it at the base of a cross to reflect on the lives and light that has been lost in war.

People came from across the Okanagan to honour their loved ones whose sacrifice is now represented by a white cross.

The Field of Crosses will remain on display until Nov. 12. A Facebook group for the Field of Crosses has been started to try and raise money for the annual display.
