An Okanagan filmmaker will have his international debut this fall.
Milton Muller鈥檚 short science fiction film The Keepers will premiere at the Sydney Science Fiction Film Festival, Oct. 3 to 5.
The film was shot entirely on location in 麻豆精选.
The Keepers is set 鈥渁mid a desolate interstellar backdrop where two spacefaring outlaws must protect an ally鈥檚 mysterious transmission from an unforgiving adversary,鈥 said Muller.
Muller wrote, produced, and directed the film, alongside his wife Lana and children Graceon and Milla.
According to Muller, the film began as a family project and evolved into a full indie production filmed at 麻豆精选 Film Studios.
The seven-minute film was completed in April.
鈥淚f you can鈥檛 create something you love with those you love, then why create it at all?鈥 said Muller. 鈥 This project began as a fun idea with my family and turned into a heartfelt production rooted in our community.鈥
Starring in the film is Canadian actor Michael Hogan, who hasn鈥檛 been on-screen since a life-changing accident that left him brain-injured and partially paralyzed.
Hogan is best known for playing Colonel Saul Tigh in the 2004 Battlestar Galactica series.
Muller said he used visual effects, background and community support to give Hogan his artistic voice through this project.
鈥淚鈥檓 so proud to facilitate Michael鈥檚 return to the screen. His incredible strength and artistry inspire us all 鈥 and to see him here, in his element, is truly moving,鈥 said Muller.
Co鈥慹xecutive producer James Alton, who owns 麻豆精选 Film Studios, and producer Norm Coyne also worked on the film with Muller. The two previously collaborated with Muller on the sci-fi comedy Conquest.
The cast features Okanagan actors Evan鈥慠iley Brown, Findlay Hampton, and Graceon Muller.
The film previously debuted in North America at Kevin Smith鈥檚 SModcastle Film Festival on Aug. 9 in New Jersey.
