Casa de Frida (Island of Woman) in downtown 麻豆精选 at 526 Lawrence Ave. in the famous 'Yellow House' has changed and incorporated some new ideas into the Mexican restaurant.

Owned and operated by husband-and-wife team Luis Silva and Oara Patru and partner Antonia Ortega, of Two Brothers in West 麻豆精选, the restaurant has a new, bright, fully licensed beautifully decorated Mexican-style patio, which can now host any type of social event for up to 75 people with live music.  It would be perfect for a wedding, anniversary, birthday party or hosting a group of friends or business associates. Casa de Frida now has a sports room in the upper level of the restaurant that seats 25 people with four TVs. This area could be used for any type of special game night or watching any sports. Casa de Frida serves truly authentic Mexican cuisine with a menu created by Chef Arturo Abundis, which offers a large variety of appetizers, salads, soups, tacos, fajitas, burritos, quesadillas, enchiladas, tortas, and many main courses, along with desserts. We sampled the beef burritos and the pork carnitas Quesadillas, along with the most scrumptious desserts of homemade flan Napolitano and lime Carlota, which was a rich and creamy no-bake dessert made with layers of mango mousse and cookies.  Open Tuesday to Thursday, from noon to 9 p.m., and Friday and Saturday, from noon to late night closing. Closed Mondays.

Off the Grid Organic Winery has named its latest release, In Loving Memory, a wine dedicated to the late father of winemaker and proprietor Sheri Paynter. I was so pleased to see this as Sheri鈥檚 father Keith Russell and Sheri鈥檚 mother Betty Russell and the DeHart had been friends for many years, and we were very sad of Keith鈥檚 passing in 1999. In Loving Memory is a unique red blend that is a tribute to the heritage and long history of the family鈥檚 farming in the Okanagan while connecting the past, present and future, with a story that began decades ago.  Years after Keith鈥檚 passing, a friend found four forgotten bottles of his 1997 vintage homemade wine. This inspired Sheri to incorporate a piece of her father鈥檚 legacy into her own winemaking. I remember Keith bringing out his home-made wine more than once for all to enjoy. When Betty made wine jelly from a bottle of the long-lost wine, it gave Sheri an idea to make a vintage that includes this wine, and that is where the idea of In Loving Memory was born. In Loving Memory is a blend of Cabernet Franc, Zweigelt and Merlot. Sheri added the last remaining bottle of her father 1997 Cabernet Franc to the blend.
