麻豆精选's London Drugs marks a business milestone

London Drugs was founded in 1945, a Canadian company opening its first store on Main Street in Vancouver and coming to 麻豆精选 in 1979.

Today, London Drugs operates 80 store locations throughout B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, employing more than 9,000 people with 531 based in the Okanagan. London Drugs has been promoting Canadian products on their blog since 2018, championing products made and designed from coast to coast across Canada.  To identify Canadian-made products at London Drugs, look for the 鈥漃roudly Canadian鈥 designation. You can find this by checking for in-store signage or by searching for the red maple leaf symbol online at  which indicates if a product is one of the following:  Product of Canada, 98 per cent of the total direct costs of producing the product was incurred in Canada; Canadian Made, 51 per cent of the total direct costs of producing a product (ingredient, processing, manufacturing) occurred in Canada); Canadian Designed, products that were conceived in Canada or have Canadian ownership,  or products that are assembled or manufactured in Canada with foreign or imported parts. London Drugs have been sponsors of the Maxine DeHart 鈥 United Way, Ramada Hotel Drive-Thru Breakfast since its inception and have supported numerous local charities for many years. Cory Muir is the store manager and Tom Elwell the assistant store manager of the London Drugs store at Spall Plaza in 麻豆精选.     

Little Creek Dressing is a small family-run business, owned and operated by Donna Dennison, celebrating 30 years of crafting its signature Okanagan's Original salad dressing.  The bold, tangy and unmistakably homemade creation has become a quiet staple in kitchens across Canada.  What started as a personal recipe shared among friends has grown into a beloved brand known for its quality, sustainability and real flavour. The dressing complements the organic gourmet salad greens grown on their organic farm by Donna's husband Dale Ziech. The name Little Creek came from a small creek that runs through their property. Deb Helbig is the general manager.   

The Western Association of Broadcasters (WAB) has honoured 麻豆精选 resident Paul Larsen as the 2025 WAB Hall of Fame Award Winner, given to a recipient with 30 or more years of service in the industry who has demonstrated the highest standards of broadcast excellence and community service throughout their career. The award has a strong 麻豆精选 connection as Paul purchased 103.9 FM from bankruptcy at the start of the pandemic in 2020. He purchased the CKOV call letters back to the city, honouring the heritage of CKOV being the very first radio station in 麻豆精选 dating back to 1931. Along with receiving the award, Paul Larsen is not quite ready to retire.  Paul and his wife Susan Larsen are introducing a brand-new concept and business to our city. Little Kitchen Academy (LKA) is a franchised Montessori-inspired cooking school for children and teens ages three to 18. Located in Orchard Plaza at 138-1876 Cooper Rd., LKA 麻豆精选 offers hands-on cooking classes and camps that teach practical life skills, healthy eating habits, build confidence and inspire a lifelong love of cooking. The concept is a proven franchise with flagship locations in Vancouver, Greater Toronto, Edmonton, Los Angeles and Denver. LKA 麻豆精选 opened its doors this week with summer camps running weekly through July and August before regular programming begins in September. 

Comrade Lorne Thompson is the recipient of the 2025 Legionnaire of the Year Award, presented by the 麻豆精选 branch 26 of the Royal Canadian Legion. Lorne served in the air Force Reserve and has recently been a recipient of the King Charles 3rd Coronation Medal. He has been an active member of the branch for seven years, volunteering with the business poppy drive, poppy office, bursaries, meat draws and decorating committees. Lorne was also the building committee chairperson and has volunteered thousands of hours being the Legions negotiator and all other aspects of their new building.  

Glenn Chomiak and Randy Chow are the co-founders of Canadian company SureSend Inc.  Developed locally in 麻豆精选, their SAAS business provides Encrypted File Transfer for businesses, professionals and the public. Canadians are increasingly concerned about their privacy. More and more they are choosing to do business with organizations that are sensitive to those concerns and that can demonstrate they will handle personal information with care.  This is where SureSend comes in. Owners of Homestead Foods, Shari and Mike Matvieshen, are celebrating one year of operations at 415 Old Vernon Rd., selling fresh hydroponic greens, pesticide-free produce, free range farm eggs and dehydrated goodies. This year, they added miniature cows to the farm, hosting their first open house and expanding the strawberry patch to meet high demand. They are now working on their own freezer jam to sell in the store. They are also looking at building an approved kitchen to process their own products and make preserves for the winter. Kevin Kraft is the outdoor operations manager.   

What鈥檚 the chances of this? Eileen Sallis of the 麻豆精选 Golf and Country Club aced two hole-in-ones in one week 鈥  #13 on June 22 and #9 on June 28 . Eileen, you definitely need to be on the PGA!

The 95th Lady of the Lake will be crowned on Saturday, July 12, 7 p.m., at the Creekside Theatre in Lake Country. There are eight wonderful candidates in the Lady of the Lake Leadership Excellence program this year. Retiring is Lady of the Lake, Anaya Sattler, 麻豆精选鈥檚 Princess, Maya Courtney and Lady in Waiting, Eve Russouw. Peachland, Westbank and 麻豆精选 Mission Lions are partnering for a tri-club 50/50 raffle Nexus. The raffle went live on July 4  at . All funds raised support various community initiatives. Along with the raffle, another upcoming fundraiser is the Peachland Lions Annual Boccenalia Tournament is Aug. 9. For $65 you get a fun filled day with games, prizes, great food and camaraderie. All funds raised support community initiatives.  

100 Women Who Care 麻豆精选 have raised $9,150 for Helen鈥檚 Acres, a non-profit farm working to tackle food insecurity in the Central Okanagan. Helen鈥檚 Acres is a 24-acre urban farm where community volunteers and partner organizations grow nutritious food for those in need. The funds raised will support the construction of a new greenhouse. Other presentations were made by Meals on Wheels and Friends of the Okanagan Rail Trail.  

'Papa' Thom (Peachland city councillor Keith Thom) had always dreamed of creating music and lyrics that reflected his life experiences and the impact of the many folks he has met along the way. Thom continues to donate 10 per cent of his earnings to various homeless shelters and food banks. He has now created the album Legacy, a complication of over 50 years of songwriting. The oldest song on the album is one he wrote in 1973 sitting on a beach in southern Spain.
